Girls are placed in leagues according to there age. St.
John Girls Softball follows NSA (National Softball Association) standards when
classifying players. A girl's playing age is her age as of January 1,st
2010. A player is always eligible to play up, meaning she can play in a higher
(older) league classification. However, a player is never eligible to play down
in a younger classification than her age dictates. The following is a list of
our leagues by classification, along with a brief description of that league. Entry level league where players use a hitting tee when hitting the ball. Coaches are stationed in the field to help the beginning players learn the basics of the game. Fifty foot bases are used along with a smaller, softer, softball. All practices and games will be played at Heartland Park located on White Oak Ave next to the St. John Ice Arena. INSTRUCTIONAL (8 Yrs Old & UNDER): Entry level league where players are introduced to hitting a pitched ball. This is a "Coach Pitch" league, where a player will start off pitching to a hitter. In the event the hitter receives a walk, the coach from the offensive team will then enter the field and finish the "at bat". There are no walks in this league, and two defensive coaches are stationed in the infield to instruct the players. This league uses an 11 inch "soft" softball, 60 foot bases, and pitches from a distance of 30 feet.
